Elizabeth Antique Appraisal Service of Ottawa was started in 1965, by Elizabeth and Kenneth Mayhew, at the request of certain
individuals from then External Affairs, Canada, whom were having problems in attaining great appraisals. Both Elizabeth and Kenneth
were reknown collectors of antiques, fine art and militaria, hence excelled at the task.
Since its inception our appraisal
service has maintained its close association with Foreign Affairs and International Trade (previously called External Affairs) and
other Ottawa based Canadian government agencies, such as the military, RCMP, CEDA, CARE etc. We have also diversified into performing
appraisals for museums, insurance companies, estates, divorces and general appraisals needed prior to moving or storage of goods.
Sadly Elizabeth passed away in 2002, followed by Kenneth in 2013. The company has been maintained by their son, Kent
who was brought up in the world of appraisals, has assisted with appraisals and antique shows at various times throughout
the years and officially joined the company in 2001.
Appraisal
Ottawa is part of Elizabeth Antique Appraisal Service. We are adding the second name to make sure that our clients realize
that we appraise more than antiques and fine art. Although our specialties are antiques, militaria and fine art, we currently
cover the whole field of collectibles, as well as, most contemporary goods, thus providing comprehensive coverage for our
clients. We will appraise gold, silver and some jewelry, however we are not gemologists, hence we recommend that
you use a gemologist for the appraisal of precious stones and jewelry.
Whether you need an appraisal for insurance, moving, storage, estate or divorce, we can meet your needs. Generally, we will go to your residence, examine the items, take a digital photograph and write down all necessary information concerning the item. We then proceed with research and the writing the appraisal. For an appraisal appointment please contact us, by phone at: (613) 226-5915. If you have numerous items that you are not sure about we do offer a consultation service, which often happens when executors deal with estates (estate appraisal).
Since we are continually receiving request for appraisals of items, which the owner simply is not sure about, we are now offering an on-line estimation, evaluation, appraisal service, for your convenience.
