Bronzes, Carvings
and Sculptures

When submitting a bronze sculpture, or carving, or other type of such artwork, for online evaluation it would be most helpful if you could provide:

1) Provenance: The item's history and where you obtained it from.

2) Measurements/dimensions in either inches or centimeters.

3) Artist name and location

4)  Digital photographs giving the front view and a picture of any writing (i.e. foundry mark)  or signature or tell us what it is often helpful.

Furthermore, we would like to know, as best as you can:

 i) Bronzes sculptures: Not only do we need to know the name of the artist’s name, we would appreciate a cropped photo of any foundry marks stamped on the piece. Often to get a good photo of such you may need a good camera with macro capability, if not then at least provide a good description.

ii) Other sculptures: We need to know the artist’s name, plus if you can a picture (cropped) of the signature.

ii) Carving: We need to know the artist, plus a picture of the artist's signature.

iv) If you think the piece is ivory, then realize that it is legal to have antiuqe pieces of ivory but the same cannot be said of modern ivory. One way to tell is to look at the piece, and realize that ivory turns a buttery color after a hundred plus years. If you are not sure if your piece is real or "faux ivory (often made of clay and other materials) then take a needle, heat it redhot with a lighter, and then touch the underside (a place not seen), and it should smell like burning horsehair if it is real.

As with all on-line evaluations, appraisals, the more of the above informations that you provide, the more accurate our onlineevaluation, appraisal will be.

As with most things, the appraisal of bronzes, carvings and sculptures should involve an up close inspection. Thus, you should call and book an appointment. We then come to your residence and  inspect the item. We take pictures, measurements and examine the item. We then return home and examine its values, what they sell\ for at auction versus what dealers want for them. A report is then written. The report is then and mailed to you along with a pdf  file that you should store on your computer.

Our report (your appraisal) is accepted by both the courts and insurance companies

If you are just interested in knowing an estimation of your item's value then you can have us appraise on-line. On-line appraisals are just estimates based upon the information that you provide.

Accordingly, on-line appraisals should not be used for legal purposes whether that be for the courts or for insurance purposes
